This is a story of a rare event that occurred in late 1960’s in Kandahar as remembered by elders in the community.
A Muslim lady who worked in a Afghan Hindu family’s house claimed that the house lady who was recently married has read the “Kalima” hence she has converted to Islam. The Afghan Hindu lady rejected the claim. The Muslim youth on the street got excited and attacked some of the Hindu properties demanding the lady be given to them. The community got afraid, closed down their businesses and did not come out of their houses for more than a week especially the houses which were on the outskirts of the main town. The lady insisted she has no desire to convert and was put in jail. She was ready to die but not convert. She stayed in jail for 40 days; she actually gave birth to her first child in prison. She is a proud Afghan Hindu living overseas right now. Some families got too scared and left Kandahar for good after this event.
If you have witness the event or can interview your elders regarding it, please post your findings.

that’s correct, Afghanistan was ruled by King Zahir Shah. As I have mentioned in the story, it was a rare event, I don’t know of any other event like this one.
Govt was not involved of course.
I don’t want to mention lady’s name or family background on this website.

Though I cannot give any information regarding this I find this information very likely to be true for many reasons. There have been many stories in news where local muslims in muslim majority lands use false accusations to forefully convert non-muslims and loot their properties.
Please bear in mind “force” here does not mean gun to head or sword on throat. “force” here means either the social/legal/fiscal/penal setup passively makes the living conditions of the non-muslim unbearable or the local muslims actively and falsely claim kalima being read or prophet/koran being maligned by the non-muslim and cause harm to them. These are the perceptions one gets especially about pakistan, afghanistan and bangladesh.
I salute you people for having survived so many hardships. As Navjyot Singh Sidhu says: mai naghmasthak kartha hoon aap logon ke samne. May you and your families find peace and prosperity where ever you are. Truth shall prevail.

I request Govt of india to cofess Indian Citizenship on all those who are opresssed any where in world on the terms of their hindu or indian lineage. though this may not be permited under the constitution of a secular country like india to permit them uner the aegis of being hindu but this can be permited uner the pretext of being of indian lineage and facing for being the follower or having close ties to india. As india is a secular country but it does not mean that India, to the rest of the world is the abode of hiduism and stands as only and the largest inherter of the hindu vintage and legacy.

An infamous story of my namesake had the same false accusation made about her by an Muslim woman who befriended a Jewish girl living in Tunisia. The Jewess and the Muslima became close friends and the Muslima asserted that the Jewess had converted to Islam. Although only 17 years old, and threatened with torture and death unless she recanted her statement that she had not converted to Islam, and promised a marriage to the son of the Muslim ruler if she would renounce her Jewish faith, she stood steadfast.
Cut to the end: The young girl was publicly beheaded, and witnesses repeated her last words: “A Jewess I was born, and a Jewess I wish to die.” Her wish was granted.
This happened in the 19th century.
